Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG)

At Chislehurst School for Girls, our vision is to provide every student with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to make ambitious and informed decisions about their future.
Our careers provision is designed around the updated 2025 Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring a high‑quality, inclusive and future‑focused programme supported by school leadership and aligned with Ofsted’s expectations for Personal Development.

High‑quality careers education improves students’ readiness for further study and work, raises aspirations, and promotes social mobility — a core principle embedded in the Gatsby Benchmarks framework.

Our Careers Commitment

We ensure all students:

  • Access a stable, sequenced and published careers programme, backed by leadership and governors (Gatsby Benchmark 1).
  • Receive impartial, high‑quality careers advice tailored to their individual needs and pathways (Benchmark 3 & 8).
  • Access current local and national labour‑market information to guide informed decision‑making (Benchmark 2).
  • Experience regular encounters with employers, further and higher education providers, and apprenticeship organisations (Benchmarks 5 & 7).
  • Participate in meaningful workplace experiences that develop real‑world understanding (Benchmark 6).
  • Explore curriculum‑linked career pathways, helping them understand how what they learn connects to future opportunities (Benchmark 4).

These reflect strengthened expectations set out in the updated 2025 Benchmarks, which place additional emphasis on leadership responsibility, inclusion, meaningful encounters, and the use of student data to tailor provision.

Meet Our Careers Coordinator

Ms Robertson– Careers Coordinator
srobertson@chsfg.co.ukThe Careers Coordinator is responsible for planning, monitoring and evaluating our careers programme in line with the updated Gatsby framework. This role is supported by the Senior Leadership Team and governors, as required under the strengthened 2025 Benchmark 1 criteria.

Our Careers Programme (Years 7–13)

A fully detailed, year‑by‑year programme is published on our website and reflects:

  • Student need at each stage
  • Labour market insights
  • Required encounters with employers, FE/HE and technical providers
  • Work experience opportunities
  • Evaluation and feedback cycles

(Insert link to your updated CEIAG Programme or embed the table we created earlier.)

This aligns with the requirement for a structured, transparent and evaluated programme as defined in updated Benchmark 1.

Personal Guidance

Every student has access to 1:1 impartial careers guidance delivered by trained advisers.  Students receive guidance at key decision points:

  • KS3 - Year 9 (GCSE options)
  • KS4 - Year 10 (post‑16 pathways)
  • KS5 - Sixth Form (post‑18 options including degree, apprenticeships, work)

This satisfies Gatsby Benchmark 8 and meets strengthened expectations for inclusion and impartiality in the updated 2025 framework.

Labour Market Information (LMI)

We help students and families understand the changing world of work by providing accessible labour‑market information, including:

  • Growth sectors and emerging industries
  • Apprenticeship opportunities
  • Local and national employer demand
  • Skills shortages and future‑facing sectors

Under updated Benchmark 2, schools must now use LMI not only to inform, but to shape and personalise the careers offer. Please see the below document laying out details of LMI for the Borough of Bromley.

Employer Encounters and Workplace Experiences

Students benefit from a rich programme of employer engagement:

  • Employer talks and seminars
  • Industry‑specific workshops
  • Workplace visits
  • In‑school career fairs
  • Work experience in Year 12

These meaningful encounters are essential to Benchmarks 5 and 6 and reflect strengthened expectations around purposeful, well‑planned experiences.

Encounters with Further, Higher & Technical Education

In line with Provider Access Legislation and Benchmark 7, students meet a range of education providers offering:

  • A Levels & Sixth Form academic routes
  • T Levels
  • Apprenticeships
  • College courses
  • University pathways

This ensures students receive balanced, impartial and diverse pathway information.

Careers in the Curriculum

All departments link subject learning with relevant future careers.
This includes:

  • Subject‑specific careers displays
  • Employer input in lessons
  • Real‑world problem‑solving tasks
  • PSHE sessions focused on skills development

This meets Benchmark 4 and Ofsted’s expectation that the curriculum prepares students for later life.

Inclusive Careers Support

We are committed to ensuring equity for all learners, including:

  • Students with SEND
  • Pupil Premium students
  • Students with barriers to learning
  • High‑achieving students requiring additional stretch

The updated Gatsby Benchmarks place a stronger emphasis on equity, tailored provision and targeted support.

Parental Engagement

Parents and carers are central partners in supporting students’ futures.

We provide:

  • Information evenings
  • Guidance newsletters
  • Provider and apprenticeship events
  • LMI information for families
  • Access to our published programme

Engaging families throughout the programme is a reinforced requirement in the 2025 updates.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Impact

To ensure quality and improvement, we:

  • Evaluate activities using student, staff and employer feedback
  • Track Compass+ progress against all eight benchmarks
  • Monitor student ambitions and destinations
  • Use data to refine provision (a new requirement in the 2025 updates)

Destinations are published annually to demonstrate impact in line with Ofsted expectations for Personal Development.

Provider Access

We welcome providers of apprenticeships, vocational and technical routes to speak with our students.
Our full Provider Access Policy is available here.

This meets statutory requirements and supports Gatsby Benchmark 7.
